I have been running the hobby project At Sea Compilations since 2012. The project grew out of activities for fanzines, as I had already noticed at the time that underground artists have a hard time being heard in the attention economy. Since then, the situation has only gotten worse, at least since platforms have been flooded with “AI music.”
Over the last decade, the project has built up a very loyal fan base, who are very happy with the approach, which remains unchanged to this day, of bringing together underground bands with slightly better-known acts, thus ensuring a surprising compilation time and again. Over the last decade, the project has also been good therapy for me, as I receive permanent disability benefits due to chronic depression.
I use the income primarily for compilation mastering – mainly adjusting volume levels and similar things.
